In October the Sheffield based Grenoside Theatre Group went to see ‘We Will Rock You’ at the city’s Lyceum theatre. Organiser Annette Linfitt reports back.

‘Twenty members joined me for the trip to see the hit Queen musical “We Will Rock You”. We met at the Lyceum Theatre, which is well served by public transport, for the matinee performance at 2.00 pm. Following the usual friendly greetings and catch-up conversations, we excitedly settled down to watch the show from our seats in the stalls.

Although many of us had seen the show previously, in London and Manchester, the Sheffield version was a stunning, new state-of-the-art production, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. ‘We Will Rock You’ features 24 of Queen’s biggest hits and a futuristic, funny script by Ben Elton. The entire cast and musicians were excellent and they received a standing ovation from the entire audience, (my particular favourite was Michael McKell as Buddy, although it’s very difficult to single out anyone).

Afterwards, we happily went our separate ways, promising to meet up again before too long. Since then, I have been speaking with the Sheffield Theatres box office team and, with their invaluable help, have reserved seats for Cabaret for March next year. As many members of my group say, “There’s always something special to look forward too!”
