Melton Mowbray is a bustling market town that is steeped in history and rich in local food produce.

Home to the pork pie, Stilton cheese, Hunt cake and locally-brewed ales, the town has been branded the Rural Capital of Food and Drink. Melton Promotions offer a Taste of Leicestershire Gourmet Short Break to enable visitors to experience all the delights of Melton Mowbray including an overnight stay in some of the area’s top accommodation. The town also has a wealth of annual events, from the Melton Food & Drink Festival to the Melton Country Fair, the hugely successful Victorian Christmas Fayre to the annual Beer Festival. Unique events such as the Traditional Rare Breeds Show, the British Pie Awards and the Artisan Cheese Fair add variety to this vibrant town. On Tuesdays, the streets are lined with the hugely popular Street Market, which runs in conjunction with one of the few remaining cattle and livestock markets. The town’s Carnegie Museum is free to visitors and shows displays on the history of food and the town’s heritage including the link to hunting and the influence it had on the local foods found in the town today.
