On The Carpet
Stafford Historical & Civic Society enjoyed a visit to the Museum of Carpet in Kidderminster in July. William Read organised the visit for members after discovering the museum at the Tourism & Attractions Show held earlier this year. The museum is located in the former Stour Vale Mill, and consists of a number of galleries and working machinery – brought to life by demonstrations. William continues:
“Our party of 12 was welcomed by volunteer David Mills, who gave a fascinating insight into the history of Kidderminster, and the rise and fall of the carpet industry, which dominated the town for many years.
This was followed by carefully-explained practical demonstrations by Janet Morgan and Kath Barnett. The huge power loom was expertly described by Ged Ward, and we experienced the sheer power of the machinery as it burst into life.
Following our tour we adjourned to the nearby Love Food Italian restaurant and delicatessen for an enjoyable and good value lunch.”
