Austria with Riviera Travel
In mid-September last year Gerry Johnson of London Tours, Chesterfield, took a group to the Austrian Tyrol on a trip organised through Riviera Travel.
‘On this trip, we were based in the village of Seefeld in Austria, and visited Innsbruck on the second day. My abiding memory of my very first trip to Europe years ago is of standing on the Maria-Theresien-Strasse in Innsbruck and seeing mountains at the end of the road. At the end of my street at home, there was a factory! I never forgot Innsbruck and, now 56 years later, I stood on the same spot. All still beautiful, and the buildings still as pristine.
The following day we visited Bolzano in northern Italy and saw Ötzi, the famous prehistoric man who was found mummified in the Alps in 1991. Very interesting! Over the next few days we explored Seefeld, getting up into the mountains by train and cable car. We also drove along the spectacular Oetztaler Glacier Road. Another highlight was our visit to Neuschwanstein Castle. It was built in the 19th-century by Ludwig II of Bavaria as an intentionally romantic interpretation of the Middle Ages.
I have found that Riviera Travel is very good value for money, with great attention to detail. Everything fits together well and they provide perfect trips, adventurous but not too arduous. In the past, I have taken my group to Krakow, and the Bay of Naples with them, and I’m looking forward to visiting Puglia in Italy, the Dalmation Coast in Croatia, and Moscow and St Petersburg with them in 2020. In fact I’ve had to book two trips to Puglia, as the first one filled up so fast!’
