A Christmas mystery trip!
Each year Mike Dean, of Sussex Weald Probus, organises a trip for his group to the Christmas Spectacular at Thursford in Norfolk. This year he created a three-night ‘Mystery Tour’!
‘The 50-strong group left Crawley on Thursday and visited the Imperial War Museum at RAF Duxford in Cambridgeshire before going to the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough. On Friday, we called at Pensthorpe Natural Park, in Fakenham, and had lunch before going to the Christmas Spectacular. The show was marvellous with everyone enjoying the colourful decorations and spectacular light displays – both outside and during the show where many different lighting effects were used within each act.
On Saturday, we had a private tour of Peterborough Cathedral, with lunch in the Knights Chambers, before exploring Peterborough. That evening, GTO contributor, author and specialist-themed meetings speaker Doug Eaton provided entertainment when he gave his ‘The History of Pantomime’ and ‘The Pantos What I Wrote’ musical talk. Doug Eaton, a regular at the Probus group’s events, actually gave his first ‘Blue Plaques Walk’ in London with us.
On Sunday morning, after a buffet breakfast in the hotel, we left for home, stopping during the journey at Jordan’s Mill, near Biggleswade, for coffee, the gift shop and a tour of the Victorian mill.’
