Dining with Frankie Valli
Groups Direct invited readers to enjoy one of their special Matinee Shows, Dine with Frankie Valli. It took place at London’s Planet Hollywood, and Jessie Whitehead reports back.
In February, I joined 10 GTO readers and their guests at Planet Hollywood for the Dine with Frankie Valli show organised by Groups Direct. We were greeted by Joseph Rawlings, Head of Operations at Groups Direct and then the staff at Planet Hollywood welcomed us with a Singapore Sling cocktail!
Before the show began we were served two courses of a delicious lunch including soup, followed by traditional fish and chips. We were all impressed by the high-quality of the food and how hot it was!
The show performers are known as Frankie’s Guys, and they began their first set with Oh What A Night. We then enjoyed classic Frankie Valli songs including Sherry Baby, Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Don’t Cry and Bye Bye Baby which were each performed with choreographed dance moves. The first half closed with Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You and by this time the whole audience was singing!
During the interval Joseph took me backstage to meet the cast, where I was lucky to have my picture taken with Frankie’s Guys – Billy Roberts, Jack Smart, Ben Beard and Scott Monello (who was the original Frankie Valli in the West End show Jersey Boys). After enjoying dessert – a delicious bread pudding – the group and I were eager for the second half to begin.
The talented Frankie’s Guys started with Grease is the Word, followed by My Eyes Adored You, which gave us the chance to appreciate Scott’s vocals. All the boys sang solos – they all had fantastic voices.
At the end the audience insisted on an encore – which was wonderfully melodic – it began with Who Loves You and ended with a medley and repeat of their most famous hits, ending with Oh What A Night.
All too soon it was over, but not before the Guys had posed for photos with the audience. I’d like to thank Joseph from Groups Direct who organised the event and was on hand to take photos of everyone, Adam Reeves, the Sales Manager at Planet Hollywood, the waiters who tended to our every need, Richard Swift and Billy, Jack, Ben and Scott for entertaining us with their gorgeous vocals and dancing.
It was a splendid day thoroughly enjoyed by all!
“The tribute band had us all singing along and dancing to their songs and there was a great atmosphere. I’d like to find out more about Groups Direct’s other productions.”
“The Frankie Valli tribute was very professional and entertaining, also the meal was excellent and well served. The free cocktail on arrival was delicious and set the scene for a very enjoyable experience.”
