A Day in Guernsey with Condor Ferries

Condor Readers DayOn a warm sunny day in April, 24 GTO readers and guests travelled to Guernsey with Condor Ferries for an inspirational day on the island.

Brenda Watkinson reports on the day.

It was a perfect day for sailing to Guernsey and, after meeting up with Condor Ferries’ Graham Hopcraft at the terminal in Poole, the group sped through the seas towards the Channel Islands on HSC Condor Liberation. Built in Australia, this modern fast ferry takes just three hours to reach the island.

Once on board, the group soon found their Ocean Plus seats in the horizon lounge and before long were tucking into a traditional English breakfast.  Located at the front of the ship with superb panoramic views, the Horizon Lounge also has access to an exclusive bar. In fact, there are three choices of seating on this ship – Ocean Traveller, Ocean Plus and Ocean Club – to suit all budgets.

On arrival, it was just a 10-minute stroll from the ship to the main pedestrian shopping area of St Peter Port. With its cobbled streets, picturesque marina and historic gardens, this is a delightful harbour town to explore.

“I thought Condor Ferries were excellent. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful.”
Susan Gravel, Town Gardens Bowls Club, Swindon

“We had a wonderful day. Condor Ferries were fantastic and went the extra mile.
As a disabled passenger, Condor were very helpful and I was very well catered for. Everyone was so friendly.”
Colin Chattey, Britvic, Hertfordshire

Stopping off at the Guernsey Information Centre, readers were able to plan their time on the island, several following walking tours while others visited Hauteville House, where Victor Hugo lived and wrote several works including Les Misérables in 1862. There was time to enjoy a crab sandwich overlooking the harbour and one couple even managed to tour the whole island on a local bus.

On the return crossing, readers reflected on their fantastic day in Guernsey while enjoying a hearty fish and chips or steak and ale pie meal, and browsed the onboard duty free shop offering savings of up to 40% on UK high street prices.

As the ship approached Poole, there were some fantastic views of the south of England including the Jurassic Coast before everyone went their separate ways.

“The whole experience with Condor Ferries was amazing. They looked after us really well. It was a very smooth process.”
Helen Baker & Jackie Harrison, Go Travel Cultural Breaks, Chislehurst

“A very warm and efficient welcome at Poole from Condor Ferries. The day was a good insight into what a lovely day can be spent in Guernsey, which without our visit would not have been possible.”
Sonia Norgan, The Dorset Explorers
